Korukkupet GRP investigates deliberate sabotage on railway track near Tiruvottiyur station to prevent potential accidents.
The Korukkupet Government Railway Police (GRP) are investigating an incident wherein staff found stones deliberately placed in between the rails and a fishplate removed from the track near the Tiruvottiyur railway station on Saturday evening.
A senior GRP official said the Tiruvottiyur Station Master deputed a railway staff to investigate the cause of a technical glitch in the signal that connects the main line with the service track going towards the Wimco Nagar railway station. While on the way to the loop line from the main one, the pointsman found gravel stones placed in between the rails along with a spanner that had been used to remove a fishplate. This could have prevented a signal change and caused an accident.
Alerted by the staff, team of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Station Master visited the spot. They removed the stones and spanner, and reattached the fishplate. After a complaint from the Station Master, the Korukkupet GRP registered a case and have deputed a team to nab those responsible for the incident.
