2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections battle between TVK and DMK, focusing on governance, women's safety, and political change.
The battle in 2026 Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu will only be between two forces, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), said TVK president Vijay on Friday (March 28, 2025).

Speaking at the party’s first general body meeting in Chennai, Mr. Vijay said: “Politics is all about caring for all families in the State, not just one family. Honourable ‘monarchist’ Chief Minister Muthuvel Karunandhi Stalin, if the BJP government at the Centre is fascist, then what is your government? Who are you to stop me from meeting the public?”
If democracy should prevail in Tamil Nadu, the DMK should be unseated from power, he believed. Had the governance in Tamil Nadu under the DMK’s rule been proper, women would have been safe. But there is no law and order in Tamil Nadu and women’s safety in the State. Women will end the DMK’s rule next year, he said.
The DMK is attempting to change the narrative from issues faced by the people. He alleged the ruling dispensation in the State has been causing trouble for the TVK in organising conferences, meetings, and outreach programmes for the past year. “Despite all barriers, our party will continue to meet people. No one can assert control over the elements of nature. Similarly, those who are daydreaming cannot stop the massive political change in Tamil Nadu next year,” he said.
Terming the BJP the “secret owner” of the DMK, Mr. Vijay said: “Why Modiji... you have an allergy... towards Tamil Nadu. When you spoke about ‘One Nation and One Election’ itself, we clearly understood your plan. Handle Tamil Nadu with care,“ he said.
“The fundamental strength of politics is uncompromising principles and ideologies. Periyar’s social justice, Kamarajar’s honesty in administration, Ambedkar’s equal justice and equal opportunity, Velunachiyar’s social inclusivity and communal harmony, and Anjaalai Ammal’s fight for water resources were the reasons for choosing them as our party’s ideologues. We are the first political party to declare two historic women icons, who are India’s freedom fighters from Tamil Nadu, as our party’s ideologies,” he added.
