Bidar MP Sagar Khandre criticizes lack of Deputy Speaker in Lok Sabha, highlighting disruptions and unfairness in parliamentary debates.
Bidar MP Sagar Khandre has expressed displeasure over non-appointment of a Deputy Speaker in the Lok Sabha since 2019, despite the Constitutional mandate under Article 93 for election to the post, thus affecting the functioning of the House.
In a press release here on Monday, Mr. Khandre stated that the “denial of speaking opportunities” to the Leader of Opposition and the “switching off” of microphones of Opposition Leaders and Parliament members when they raise points directly disrupt fairness and effectiveness of parliamentary debate.
A well-functioning democracy requires the smooth functioning of Parliament, where all Parliament members, irrespective of party affiliations, are given equal opportunity to debate and discharge their Constitutional duties.
Mr. Khandre also noted the exclusion of key Ministries in budget and demand for grants discussions, the lack of discussions under Rule 193, which permits debates on urgent public importance without the need for voting.
Terming such developments as a threat to the very foundations of democracy, he demanded that these issues be addressed immediately.
