Tamil Nadu Association condemns Minister Duraimurugan for derogatory terms towards differently abled, demands apology for disrespectful comments.
Members of Tamil Nadu Association for the Rights of All Types of Differently Abled and Caregivers (TARATDAC) on Wednesday staged a demonstration condemning Water Resources Department Minister Duraimurugan for using derogatory terms denoting deformities of differently abled people for comparison with opposition political parties.
As the term matruthiranaligal (differently abled people) was coined by former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi to address people with disabilities with respect and dignity, the derogatory terms used by a senior minister and leader of the party was condemnable, said A. Balamurugan, district secretary.
“When people think they can use a deformity to demean a member of the opposition party, what concern they have for the differently abled people who live their life with deformities,” he added.
Mr. Duraimurugan should render unconditional apology for the derogatory terms he used in a public meeting, the protesters said.
