CPI(M) resolution urges Tamil Nadu Govt to restore old pension scheme, regularize anganwadi workers, and inspect firecracker units.
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has urged the Tamil Nadu Government to keep its electoral promise of restoring the old pension scheme to all government employees and teachers. A resolution to this effect was adopted at the 24th State conference of the party in Villupuram.
According to the resolution, government employees and teachers who joined service on or after April 1, 2003 are not eligible for gratuity because they are under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS). “As many as five States have started implementing the old pension scheme. Though the DMK had promised that the new pension scheme would be scrapped, it is yet to fulfil it,” the resolution said.

“In addition, the government is yet to implement its promise of regularising the services of anganwadi workers and granting them periodic pay. On the contrary, the government had outsourced the breakfast scheme to a private agency causing discontent among the workers,” the resolution said.
The resolution also called upon the Tamil Nadu Government to stop implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) under different names. “In addition, the recommendations of a committee constituted by the Government to formulate an education policy for the State is yet to be implemented.”
