Tirunelveli Corporation and public submit petitions for better roads, water supply, and drainage completion during grievances redressal meet.
Councillors of Tirunelveli Corporation and the public submitted petitions on Tuesday seeking better roads, improved drinking water supply and early completion of ongoing underground drainage work.
Submitting a petition to Mayor G. Ramakrishnan during the weekly grievances redressal meet held on Tuesday, councillor of ward 5 V. Jeganathan said the drinking water being supplied to the residents of Uchchini Maakaaliamman Temple Street in Thimmarajapuram was badly contaminated due to the damaged drinking water pipes. Besides replacing the damaged drinking water pipes, steps should be taken to ensure regular supply of drinking water to the residents of Kakkan Nagar, Vaiyapuri Nagar, Sridevi Nagar and Annai Gowri Nagar, Mr. Jeganathan said.
He also said the park on Rahmath Nagar 20th Street should be renovated by repairing the damaged play equipment and installing lights.
Councillor S. Petchiammal of ward 35 submitted a petition seeking the repairing of damaged culverts on English Church Road, Andal Street, Ramasamy Temple Street and Punithavathiyar Street.
On behalf of Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam, its Tirunelveli city district secretary M. Rasik Mohammed submitted a petition seeking deployment of sanitary workers in sufficient number in Gandhi Nagar, IOB Colony, Madhar Nagar, SMA Nagar, Annamalai Nagar and Nedunkulam, all under ward 17, for effective garbage collection.
Members of Canara Bank Colony Residents’ Welfare Association submitted a petition criticizing the Corporation for laying drinking water pipes without augmenting the supply of drinking water. They said pipelines for supplying drinking water 24 X 7 were being laid in Canara Bank Colony having overhead tank with the capacity of only 2 lakh litre while the demand would be 5.30 lakh litre if 145 litres of water is to be given for each resident of this area. However, drinking water pipes were being laid without constructing new overhead tank for increasing the supply.
Moreover, the trenches dug for laying the pipes were not filled-up properly leading to accidents involving bikes. Hence, the Corporation officials should take due steps for making the drinking water supply effective in Canara Bank Colony, they said.
