Congress announces MLC candidates, including Vijayashanti, with one seat allotted to CPI in upcoming elections.
Congress party has announced names of three candidates for MLC elections and allotted the fourth one to its alliance CPI.
Actor Vijayashanti gets the nod for the MLC from the MLA quota along with PCC leader Addanki Dayakar and Nalgonda DCC chief Kethavath Shanker Naik. The fourth seat goes to the CPI even as there was strong lobbying by the AIMIM leadership to allot the fourth one to it.
On its own strength, Congress is sure to win three and with its support, the alliance party is hopeful of wresting the seat. AICC General Secretary K. C. Venugopal released the names in New Delhi on Sunday night.
The ECI had issued the notification issued on March 3, followed by nomination starting on March 10. The scrutiny of nominations will be done on March 11, and March 13 will be the last date for withdrawal of nominations. The elections will be held on March 20 with the polling to be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Counting will be done immediately after the polling.
