District Collector ensures prompt repair of pipelines for steady drinking water supply, monitoring quality and demand in Ammapettai.
District Collector R. Brindha Devi has directed officials to promptly repair damaged pipelines and ensure a steady supply of drinking water to residents.
Accompanied by Corporation Commissioner-in-charge Balasubramaniam and other officials, Ms. Brindha Devi inspected the drinking water supply in the Ammapettai zone and held discussions on Wednesday.
She stated that continuous inspections are being conducted across the Corporation, municipalities, town panchayats and panchayats to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply during summer. With water demand expected to rise in the coming days, the frequency and quality of water supply in Ammapettai are being closely monitored. She added that water is supplied to 8.5 lakh people across all 60 wards within the corporation limits, with 140 million litres per day distributed through two schemes.
Ms. Brindha Devi stressed that in the event of supply delays due to unavoidable reasons, such as pipeline bursts, immediate repair and restoration measures must be undertaken. Additionally, under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme, a ₹750-crore drinking water project is in the tender process with private sector participation. She further emphasised the need for mandatory chlorination every 15 days and periodic cleaning of overhead tanks.
