BRS criticizes Congress Government for adjourning Telangana Assembly and Council within two minutes of convening special session.
HYDERABAD
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has observed that the Congress Government has not only brought disrepute to Telangana but has insulted the Legislature by adjourning the Assembly and Council within two minutes of they being convened on Tuesday (February 4, 2025) for the special session on Social, Economic, Educational, Employment, Political and Caste survey data and Scheduled Castes sub-classification
The two houses were adjourned following the statement of Legislative Affairs Minister D. Sridhar Babu in the Assembly that the Cabinet meeting was still underway and the government needed some time to prepare minutes on the Caste Survey report, the Dedication Commission report and the one-man Judicial Commission report on the Scheduled Castes categorisation.
Senior leader of the party T. Harish Rao ridiculed the government for its lack of preparedness for the special session on the pretext that subject notes were yet to be prepared due to the Cabinet meeting. Former ministers and MLAs of the party V. Prashanth Reddy, Talasani Srinivas Yadav and G. Kamalakar said at the media point on the Assembly premises that such a postponement of the House, within two minutes of being convened for the day, had not taken place even in the combined State.
They faulted the government for getting the House adjourned without even specifying the business to be transacted during the special session and sought to know why the Cabinet meeting, which was earlier planned to be held before the Assembly session, was rescheduled to the day of the Assembly session. They asked whether it was the respect given to Backward Classes (BC) and Scheduled Castes (SC) communities.
Terming the caste census data collection as farce, they said it was carried out in a hurry leaving out many households uncovered in the survey resulting in accumulation of incorrect data. They questioned how the population of BC, SC and Minorities communities would decline compared to the data gathered as part of the household survey conducted in August 2014 and that of OCs would go up.
