BJP's 'Jan Akrosh Yatra' in Mangaluru on April 9 to protest rising prices and corruption under Congress government.
The BJP’s ‘Jan Akrosh Yatra’ will be held in Mangaluru on April 9, Wednesday.
Taking to reporters here on Monday, Mangaluru City South MLA D. Vedavyasa Kamath said the yatra will be held to highlight concerns of people due to rise in prices of essential commodities namely milk, curds and diesel and increase in electricity tariff. It is also to express anguish over hike in all registration fee, stamp duty, vehicle registration fee and excise duty. The yatra will highlight corruption and maladministration charges against the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government.
The yatra which commenced in the State on April 7 will pass through headquarters of all districts.
The yatra will commence in Mangaluru at 3 p.m. from the Ambedkar Circle. It will reach Clock Tower Circle where a protest will be held. Around 15,000 people are expected participate in the event, he said.
The BJP State president B.Y. Vijayendra, Leaders of Opposition in Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council R. Ashok and Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, respectively, MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta and other BJP leaders will participate in the programme.
After Mangaluru, the Yatra will go to Udupi and then to Shivamogga. It will end in Bengaluru on May 3. The BJP has planned to hold this Yatra to cover all taluk headquarter shortly, Mr. Kamath said.

When reporters brought to her notice the claim by villagers that the late maharaja of Mysore Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar had gifted the land to them, Pramoda Devi Wadiyar said she is not aware of the matter, but sought to assure people that no effort will be made to take back the land that had been gifted by the late maharaja.
