Belagavi officers told to take up water supply works on priority in vulnerable villages

District officials address water supply issues in vulnerable villages, emphasizing prevention of scarcity and efficient management under various programs.
Senior officials of the district administration have been holding a series of meetings with district, taluk and village-level officers to review the water supply situation during the summer months.
Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Rahul Shindhe is going around the worst affected villages and telling officers to take up water supply works there on priority.
He inspected work sites in villages near Kagwad recently. He reviewed the progress of the multi village drinking water scheme in Mangasuli village.
Mr. Shindhe asked officials to take steps to prevent a shortage of drinking water during the summer. He asked them to ensure that the entire water supply be mapped from source to user points.
He told them to clean water tankers and cisterns every two weeks. He said that these villages have been identified as vulnerable villages that suffer from scarcity every summer and have to be given first priority. Water availability for domestic animals and cattle should also be considered, he said.
Zilla Panchayat Project Director Ravi Bangareppanavar held a meeting of officers in Belagavi on Monday. He asked officers to take steps in every village to prevent drinking water scarcity by addressing operational management issues under the Jal Jeevan Mission and Rural Drinking Water and Sanitation Programmes.
Resource persons spoke of drinking water supply operation and management policy, declaration of model villages, 24 x 7 water services, construction and good management of groundwater management models, formation of village water sanitation committees, role and responsibilities, water meter management and field level challenges in water and sanitation issues.
