Tiruchi Corporation launches anti-rabies vaccination camp for stray dogs, aiming to protect 5,000 dogs in the first phase.
The Tiruchi Corporation launched an anti-rabies vaccination camp in the city on Friday.
Mayor M. Anbazhagan flagged the camp at the Corporation’s main office in the presence of Corporation Commissioner V. Saravanan, City Health Officer M. Vijay Chandran and Deputy Mayor G. Dhivya.
There are around 43,767 stray dogs within the city limits. In the last two years, more than 21,770 stray dogs have been sterilised, vaccinated against rabies and released back to where they were caught.
As it is necessary to administer the vaccine to the dogs once every two years to protect them from rabies virus, the civic body organised a camp to identify the sterilised dogs and administer booster doses. A total of 5,000 stray dogs would be given booster shots in the first phase. Special camps would be held regularly to vaccinate all stray dogs, a press release said.

When reporters brought to her notice the claim by villagers that the late maharaja of Mysore Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar had gifted the land to them, Pramoda Devi Wadiyar said she is not aware of the matter, but sought to assure people that no effort will be made to take back the land that had been gifted by the late maharaja.
