AIADMK opposes Hindi imposition in National Education Policy, demands release of funds for Tamil Nadu students.
“The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) would strongly oppose the imposition of Hindi, even if it assumed the form of the National Education Policy,” senior party leader and former Minister D. Jayakumar said on Sunday (February 16, 2025). He contended students of Tamil Nadu were being affected by the “political game.”
“The AIADMK would strongly oppose the imposition of Hindi in any form, even if it came in the form of the Central Government’s National Education Policy. The strongest voice against it would be that of AIADMK general secretary Edappadi’s (Palaniswami),” Mr. Jayakumar said.
“None could shake the two-language policy in Tamil Nadu. They should realise that the students of Tamil Nadu would be affected by their political game,” Mr. Jayakumar contended, in a social media post.
The former Minister said: “The funds due to our students should not get blocked over any reason, including the education policy. So, the funds due to the students of Tamil Nadu should be released at once.”
“When the National Educational Policy came about, then Chief Minister Palaniswami had announced as early as August 2020 that the two-language formula would continue in Tamil Nadu,” Mr. Jayakumar recalled.
“In August 2024 too, Mr. Palaniswami had issued a statement opposing the Central Government over the funds due to Tamil Nadu for education programmes being implemented in the State,” Mr. Jayakumar pointed out.
It was the AIADMK, the “original Dravidian movement”, which has always held the two-language policy up, the former Minister contended. He also criticised the DMK and its president and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and accused him of teaching Hindi in “their schools” (administered by family members of ruling party politicians) but of playing a “drama” in the stage, against it.
