AIADMK legislators were evicted from the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on Friday (March 28, 2025) after they raised slogans against Speaker M. Appavu for not permitting the Leader of the Opposition Edappadi K. Palaniswami to raise “a matter of urgent public importance” during the Zero Hour.
Soon after the Question Hour ended, Mr. Palaniswami stood up, saying he wanted to raise a matter of urgent public importance. Mr. Appavu, however, denied permission, stating that the Opposition leader had not given prior notice to raise the matter.
The AIADMK legislators then raised slogans, demanding that Mr. Palaniswami be given time to raise the issue. They continued sloganeering even when Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin stood up to reply to the Demands for Grants for the Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Department.
Leader of the House and Water Resources Minister Duraimurugan intervened and said it would set a wrong precedent in the Assembly to allow the Opposition leader to speak when notice had not been given to the Speaker on the issue. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin also said the Opposition should follow the rules and conventions of the Assembly if they want to raise an issue.
As the sloganeering continued, the Speaker ordered the eviction of all the AIADMK legislators for disrupting the proceedings of the House. After the AIADMK members were evicted, Mr. Stalin alleged that the Opposition was unable to stomach the growth of the State in terms of employment generation and attracting investments under the DMK’s rule.
