Girija Lokesh emphasizes women's power and education at 'Sakshama' event celebrating International Women's Day in Moodbidri.
Stressing on the unparalleled power of women, actor Girija Lokesh said true woman is the the one who stands up against exploitation.
Speaking at ‘Sakshama’, organised by Alvas Education Foundation to celebrate International Women’s day, on Saturday at Moodbidri, Ms. Lokesh said education was the true beauty and brilliance of women. She recalled her younger days and expressed gratitude for her mother’s discipline and guidance.
Chairman of the foundation, M. Mohan Alva said women, through their distinct and responsible roles, have been instrumental in instilling consciousness and strength in lives of men.
Dean in the department of Yoga and Humanities, S. Vyas Deemed to be University, Bengaluru, Karuna Vijayendra; Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mangaluru Traffic Sub-Division, Najma Farooqi; and Research Director, Centre for Advanced Learning, Mangaluru, Smita Hegde, also spoke.
On the occasion, entrepreneur Divya D’Souza, thinker Matha Meenakshi and Mariyam Afna from Sanoor, who is known for collecting and nurturing paddy seeds, were felicitated.
The event was held in memory of Padmashri awardee folk singer Sukri Bommagowda from Ankola in Uttara Kannada, who passed away few days ago.
