Eighty-six CPI (Maoist) members surrender in Telangana as part of 'Operation Chueyutha' for rehabilitation and welfare initiatives.
Eighty-six members of the banned CPI (Maoist) party surrendered before the Inspector General of Police, Multi Zone – I, in Bhadradri Kothagudem district on Saturday (April 5, 2025). The surrender is part of an ongoing effort by the Telangana Police Department to rehabilitate Maoist cadres through welfare-driven initiatives under the ‘Operation Chueyutha’ programme.
The surrendered individuals belonged to various formations of the banned outfit, including 4 ACMs, 5 party members, 8 RPC Committee members, 27 RPC militia members, 20 from RPC DAKMS/KMS, 13 from RPC CNM, and 9 from RPC GRD. Many of them had previously participated in violent activities but chose to give up arms after learning about the rehabilitation and welfare schemes available to them and their families, according to police sources.
Police officials said the development is a result of growing awareness among Maoist cadres about the benefits being extended to surrendered members and the focus on tribal welfare by the Telangana government. Several schemes aimed at providing livelihood support and settlement options to tribal communities have been instrumental in the increasing number of surrenders.
With this, the total number of Maoists who have surrendered so far in 2025 stands at 224. These include 2 DVCMs, 10 ACM/PPCMs, 25 party members, 74 militia members, 23 RPC members, 41 DKMS/KMS members, 31 CNM members, 1 courier, and 17 GRD members. These surrenders took place across two police districts, officials said.
The police cited two incidents – a tribal woman from Rampur village who lost her leg and another woman from Sodepura village who died – as examples of the harm caused by continued Maoist violence in agency areas.
The police encouraged cadres to approach the nearest police station or district officials either directly or through family members. The department also promised immediate support for livelihood and rehabilitation and assured that top leaders from Telangana would be provided additional monetary assistance for their long-term settlement.
IGP S. Chandrasekhar Reddy addressed the press conference. Bhadradri Kothagudem District SP Rohit Raju, Mulugu ASP Shivam Upadhyaya, Probationary Officer Ruthvik Sai Kotte, CRPF 141 Second-in-Commandants Kamal Veer and Preeta, 81 Bn CRPF Second-in-Commandant Himanshu, and others were present.
