Dadi Ratan Mohini, head of the Brahma Kumaris, passes away

Dadi Ratan Mohini, head of the Brahma Kumaris, passes away

The Hindu
Tuesday, April 8, 2025 3:56 PM GMT

Dadi Ratan Mohini, spiritual leader of Brahma Kumaris, passes away at 100, mourned by leaders worldwide.

Dadi Ratan Mohini, spiritual leader and chief administrator of the Brahma Kumaris, died at a private hospital in Ahmedabad early on Tuesday (April 8, 2025). Her 100th birthday was celebrated on March 25. She was unwell for the past week, and was shifted from Rajasthan’s Abu Road to Ahmedabad when her condition deteriorated.

Dadi Ratan Mohini’s body has been kept at the Brahma Kumaris’ headquarters, Shantivan, in Abu Road, to enable people to pay their last respects. She was earlier transferred for dialysis at the Trauma Centre in Shantivan before being shifted to Ahmedabad in neighbouring Gujarat.

The centenarian spiritual leader was the second chief of the Brahma Kumaris, said to be the world’s largest spiritual organisation, to reach the advanced age. She was the chief administrator of Brahma Kumaris since 2021. The first, Dadi Janki, passed away in 2020 at the age of 104.

Born on March 25, 1925 in Hyderabad Sindh, now in Pakistan, Dadi Ratan Mohini was originally named Lakshmi, and was raised in a prosperous and devout family. She migrated to India after the Partition and represented the Brahma Kumaris at the World Peace Conference in Japan in 1954. She later travelled to Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia.

In 1985, Dadi Ratan Mohini embarked on a series of spiritual pilgrimages to promote cultural and moral values. She undertook a 31,000-km-long journey in 2006 to spread her message.

Several leaders across the country, including President Droupadi Muru, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma condoled Dadi Ratan Mohini’s death. Ms. Murmu, who is at present on a State visit to Portugal and the Slovak Republic, said Dadi Ratan Mohini was a beacon of light for the global organisation, which had contributed significantly to her (the President’s) own life journey.
