Many terrestrial birds of different species were recorded in Pudukottai district during the synchronised terrestrial bird census 2025 that was conducted on Sunday. The census was carried out as part of a State-wide exercise involving bird enthusiasts, volunteers, and college students for over three hours at 25 chosen locations in the district.
A Forest Department official said the census was carried out in reserve forests and outside the reserve forest areas from 6 a.m. to 9.30 a.m. The exercise was carried out in reserve forests located at places such as Narthamalai, Mullur, and Maniyachi.
Twenty-five teams carried out the census at the identified locations during which several migrant and resident terrestrial bird species were recorded. The migrant bird species recorded during the exercise included Alphine Swift, Indian Paradise Flycatcher, Glamorous Reed Warbler and Short Toed Snake Eagle. The resident bird species recorded included Asian Koel, Asian Palm Swift, Yellow Billed Babbler, Common Tailorbird, Indian Robin, and Red Wattled Lapwing, the official said.
