The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) is considering introducing WhatsApp-based communication to enhance engagement with passengers and stakeholders.
If implemented, the system will provide quick notifications for ticket bookings, confirmations, cancellations and reminders. Bus pass holders will also benefit from timely alerts on applications, renewals, and status updates. TGSRTC also plans to integrate cargo and parcel services, allowing senders and receivers to track shipments in real time.
If WhatsApp messages fail to reach recipients, the system will automatically redirect them via SMS. To implement this, TGSRTC has invited bids from service providers with expertise in WhatsApp-based communication. The initiative aims to enhance service efficiency, provide real-time updates to passengers and reduce reliance on traditional SMS alerts.
Speaking to The Hindu, TGSRTC managing director V. C. Sajjanar said: “Everyone these days is using WhatsApp to send messages. The move to this platform is to facilitate seamless communication. Initially, we will start with an online passenger reservation system. We then plan to expand it to other services like bus pass issuance and renewal,” he said.
In a separate development, and as a part of efforts to monetise its land assets, the TGSRTC will soon begin leasing out several land parcels across the State. The corporation has invited bids for these properties that span several acres. The move is a part of its strategy to generate revenue.
The land parcels that have been identified include at least 20 properties. Among these are Khammam New Bus Station, covering one acre and 31 guntas, the Turkayamjal-2 Depot, measuring six acres and 9 guntas, the Zonal Workshop in Karimnagar, spread over four acres and 13 guntas, and a parcel in Sircilla, of about one acre and 37 guntas.
The TGSRTC has specified that the leased properties can be utilised for Grade A warehouses, logistics companies, automobile service centres, showrooms, convention centres, hotels or resorts. However, leasing for educational institutions or hostel accommodations is not permitted.
