18-day-old infant in ICU after seizures from firecrackers at wedding in Kerala; parents file complaint, police investigate.
A 18-day-old infant from Thrippangottur in Kannur, Kerala, is in the intensive care unit after suffering seizures, reportedly triggered by high-energy firecrackers used during a wedding celebration in the neighbourhood. The baby, born to Ashraf and Rafana, faced health complications due to repeated loud explosions on Sunday and Monday midnight.
According to the police, the complainant, Mr. Ashraf, said the distress began on Sunday night when a loud firecracker explosion startled the baby.
“The baby’s mouth and eyes were wide open after the sudden sound. Though the condition returned to normal, the next day’s louder explosions caused severe distress,” he said.
The wedding celebrations reportedly involved multiple instances of loud firecracker bursts, including one during the groom’s departure on Monday evening and another at night when he returned home. Despite pleas from the affected family to reduce the noise, their requests were ignored.
Mr. Ashraf has filed a complaint with the Kolavallur police, demanding action against those responsible.
The police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
