The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has tested 163 samples of paneer across Karnataka for adulteration in the month of March after a letter was sent out from the office of the Chief Minister. On March 3, following media reports and social media posts about adulteration of paneer, the Chief Minister’s office had asked Srinivas K., the Commissioner of FSSAI, to immediately examine the quality of paneer in Karnataka keeping in mind the health of the public.
In a reply that was sent on March 17, the Commissioner said that the 163 samples were sent to a special lab for analysis. “While four samples have been declared safe, the analysis of the other samples is in progress. Based on the results of those samples, suitable action will be taken,” he said.
