Kottayam town on Saturday witnessed chaotic scenes as march taken out by Youth Congress workers demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan over the allegations raised against the financial irregularities involving his daughter turned unruly.
The march to the office of the District Police Chief was blocked by the police using barricades. As the protesters attempted to topple the barricades, the police used force to disperse them and deployed water cannons. The police arrested several protesters as they refused to leave.
UDF leader K. Francis George, MP, inaugurated the protest.
Traffic along the Kottayam-Kumily road faced minor disruptions due to the protests and the clash that ensued.

A major operation is under way in Kodagu district to capture two elusive tigers that have been sighted in Theralu and surrounding villages under the jurisdiction of Birunani Gram Panchayat. The forest department, supported by elephants from the Dubare elephant camp—Gopi and Srirama—has been involved in the effort for the past five days.
