District Science Centre hosts paper plane workshop for school children, encouraging interest in aeronautical engineering and aerospace careers.
The District Science Centre on Wednesday organised a workshop for school children on paper plane making as part of its week-long 38th annual day celebration here.
A total of 56 students of Class 4 and 5 from 16 schools participated in the workshop, which was conducted by Education Officer of the centre P. Mari Lenin.
After a briefing about flying principles of aeroplanes with a model, the students were taught to make two types of aeroplanes with chart paper. While the first model was the regular one, the second was with ‘flyback design’, which were tested by the children amidst loud cheers from the young makers. A few of them wanted to become pilots.
“The workshop was conducted to encourage the children and expose them to aeronautical engineering and aerospace engineering and motivate them to pursue their career in these fields if they are really interested. The children were keen on understanding the flying principles as they raised several questions,” said Mr. Mari Lenin.
Winners of the drawing competition organised for school students last Sunday (February 23) in various categories and the year-long quiz programmes organised in the schools will be honoured with prizes on the valedictory celebration to be held on Thursday.
“We are organising a popular science lecture on ‘Glacier preservation’ on the final day of our celebrations,” Mr. Mari Lenin said.
