
Work on widening of Vellimedupettai - Mailam road begins

Widening of Vellimedupettai-Mailam Road to four lanes begins, connecting Puducherry with LED lighting and improved facilities.
Work on widening the two-lane Vellimedupettai-Mailam Road into a four-lane commenced on Wednesday.
Accompanied by Collector Shiek Abdul Rahman, Minister for Forests K. Ponmudy laid the foundation stone for the project in Thazhuthali near Tindivanam.
Officials of the State Highways Department said the arterial road connects Puducherry and as per plan, the widening work was being taken up for a distance of 5km. Funded under the Chief Minister Road Development Programme for 2023-24 (CMRDP), the project was estimated to cost ₹32.5 crore.
The entire work would be completed in 12 months by the Construction and Maintenance wing of the Highways department. The road would bring in more facilities, including LED lighting, a tiled footpath and a stormwater drain.
Once widened, the stretch would have more frequency of bus services, including inter-State services.
