Dharmasthala pattadhikari and Rajya Sabha member D. Veerendra Heggade on Wednesday said Shivaratri means pure and auspicious night. When one venerates Lord Shiva with pure mind, one can get rid of sins and gain virtues.
Mr. Heggade was speaking after launching Shivaratri Jagarane with the chanting of Shiva Panchakshari at Dharmasthala in the presence of thousands of devotees converging at the temple town from across the State.
He said one could gain peace and contentment by renunciation and disenchantment. Mr. Heggade noted that there should be no difference between words and deeds. In such a situation, life becomes hassle-free with adherence to truth, justice and moral. Everyone should pray for the well-being of every other person in the world (Loka Kalyana) by leaving aside impure thoughts in mind, he said.
The launching followed night-long Shiva Panchakshari chanting by devotees, Shatha Rudrabhisheka and tender coconut abhisheka to Lord Manjunatha and other rituals.
