CMDA to renovate Koyambedu Wholesale Market Complex with painting, repairs, and new lighting provisions at a cost of ₹10 crore.
The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) plans to renovate the Koyambedu Wholesale Market Complex (KWMC) at a cost of ₹10 crore.
The project is at the tender stage and is scheduled to be completed within eight months after the site is handed over, an official stated. Renovation works will include painting and repair of the compound wall near the CMDA Park boundary. Additional painting will cover the cycle stand and RO water stand. The Koyambedu Market Management Committee office will be painted and civil repair works wherever necessary will be done, an engineer said.
Common areas, including the food grain market wall and the wall towards the toilet block, will also be painted. No repair works will be undertaken for shops, as these have been sold to vendors, and pathway repairs are excluded as per the Tamil Nadu Budget.
In addition, three arches will be constructed in designated areas using concrete and clay Mangalore tiles. New lighting provisions will be installed at strategic locations throughout the complex. High-mast lights, T‐shaped light poles, street light poles and LED floodlights would be installed. Technical personnel will be deployed on-site to supervise the works and ensure that all activities adhere strictly to CMDA specifications and standard building codes.
CMDA has also planned a subsequent project to repair surrounding roads, the estimation process for which is under way. The tenders for this additional work are currently being processed, according to an official.
