Workshop on Arctic climate begins

NCPOR workshop explores Arctic climate and environmental protection with experts from UGC, Ministry of Earth Sciences, and more.
A two-day workshop on ‘Understanding Arctic: Climate and the need for environmental protection,’ jointly organised by the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR), Goa, University Grants Commission and Ministry of Earth Sciences, began here on Sunday.
In his inaugural address, Thamban Meloth, director, NCPOR, highlighted the critical role of polar studies in understanding the changing climate and their interconnections with the Indian monsoon at the workshop, organised under the UGC-SWAYAM Massive Open Online Course.
K. Dinesh, Registrar, Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS), S. Suresh Kumar, Director of Research, KUFOS, and Anu Gopinath, course coordinator, spoke.
S. Bijoy Nandan, former Vice-Chancellor, Kannur University, Rahul Mohan, Head, Polar Sciences Group, NCPOR, and polar researchers Avinash Kumar, Archana Singh, and T. Jabir of the Centre and filmmaker Rakesh Rao also spoke.
