A woman and her daughter from Belagavi died in the stampede at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, on January 29.
The deceased are Jyoti Hattarwad, 50, a BJP worker, and her daughter Megha Hattarwad, 16. Their family members could not trace them since morning on January 29, as the mobile network in Prayagraj was down. Later, another resident of Belagavi, who had accompanied them, called to inform that they were dead. The duo were injured in the stampede, and succumbed to their injuries. They had travelled along with 15 others, through Sairath Travel Agency, from Belagavi on January 26.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan has urged people not to panic. ”We are in constant touch with senior revenue and police officers in Uttar Pradesh. The South Western Railway has established contact with their counterparts there. We have received some complaints that some persons are not traceable. That may be because of the huge crowds, and the lack of network connectivity. We are trying to help the families trace them. Complaints about missing persons (at Maha Kumbh) can be lodged at the office of the DC in Belagavi,” he said.
