BJP wins Delhi Assembly elections, forming ruling government in 13 States and two Union Territories, Congress rule in three States.
After over 26 years, the BJP has won the Delhi Assembly elections by winning 48 of the 70 seats on Saturday (February 8, 2025). Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which had won 62 (of 70) seats in the 2020 Assembly polls, faced an upsetting defeat by winning 22 seats.
Out of the eight Assembly elections that took place in 2024, the BJP single-handedly won three of those - in Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, and Haryana - by being in the majority. Meanwhile, the BJP’s alliances secured victories in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Sikkim; and the party failed to secure victories in Jharkhand and Jammu & Kashmir.
With the conclusion of the Delhi Assembly polls, the BJP now have formed the ruling government in 13 States and 2 Union Territories (Delhi and Puducherry), as shown in the map below.
