Volunteers harvest paddy grown on four acres in an hour

Baduku Kattona Banni Seva Trust leads 1,000 volunteers to harvest paddy in an hour near Ujire, benefiting local community.
About 1,000 volunteers led by Baduku Kattona Banni Seva Trust, Ujire harvested paddy grown on about four acres at Belalu village, near Ujire, in an hour on Sunday.
The trust had taken the lead in cultivating paddy on the land that had been left uncultivated near Ananthapadmanabha Temple, Ananthodi in the village. The NSS unit and Sports Association of SDM College, Ujire Belthangady Rotary Club and the managing committee of the temple joined hands with the trust in cultivating paddy and harvesting it.
The threshing was done in the temple premises to separate the grains from the stalks of paddy. The rice will be used to offer naivedyam to the presiding deity of the temple and the fodder will be given away to thegoshalaat Kalenja, a release said.
