Virudhunagar district gets highest number of beneficiaries under extended Pudhumai Penn scheme

Pudhumai Penn scheme provides financial assistance and resources to girl students in Virudhunagar district for higher education and job opportunities.
A total of 5,555 girl students who had completed their school education between Class VI and Plus Two through Tamil medium of instruction from Government-aided schools in Virudhunagar district were given the hampers under Pudhumai Penn scheme here on Monday.
Revenue Minister K. K. S. S. R. Ramachandran gave away the hamper containing debit cards, a guide on job opportunities and book on financial literacy to the students in the presence of Virudhunagar Collector V. P. Jeyaseelan. These students would get a monthly assistance of ₹1,000.
The Minister said that the new scheme was aimed at assuring higher education to girl students, preventing child marriages, financial help to financially-poor students and to encourage girl students to choose the discipline of their choice and increase their job opportunities.
The Collector said that Virudhunagar district had the highest number of beneficiaries under the scheme.
MLAs, S. Thangapandian, G. Ashokan, Sivakasi Mayor I. Sangeetha, District Revenue Officer R. Rajendran, District Social Welfare Officer Sheela Sundarai were among those who were present.
