Vehicle underpass to be proposed at Kukatpally Y junction
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is preparing proposals for a vehicle underpass near Kukatpally Y Junction in addition to the two flyovers already planned under the ‘Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure’ (HCITI) project.
The underpass is planned from Balanagar side up to the Metro Station on Kukatpally main road, officials informed under the condition of anonymity.
Two flyovers on the Kukatpally main road were planned as part of the Phase-II proposals of the previous Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP) conceptualised during the BRS regime, which have been incorporated without changes in the HCITI project too by the Congress government.
The two unidirectional flyovers which had received an administrative sanction of ₹180 crore before elections, were planned, one towards Ameerpet and the other towards Miyapur.
“The underpass would be invariably required so that the oncoming traffic on both sides underneath the flyovers would not clash. We are incorporating it into the plan,” the official said.
A total 23 works in five packages across the six zones of GHMC have received administrative sanction of ₹5,942 crore under the HCITI project, including construction of flyovers, underpasses, ROBs, and widening of several roads.
