Former CPI(M) district secretaries in Kerala questioned by ED for involvement in Karuvannur Service Co-operative Bank scam.
K. Radhakrishnan MP, also a former district secretary of the CPI(M) in Thrissur, Kerala, appeared before the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) in Kochi on Tuesday (April 8, 2025) in connection with the investigation into the Karuvannur Service Co-operative Bank scam.
Mr. Radhakrishnan, who had earlier been served a notice to appear for interrogation, had sought time to appear at the ED office, citing some other engagements.
The investigation agency had also questioned M. M. Varghese, a former district secretary of the CPI(M), in connection with the scam.
The ED case was that the bank had illegally issued loans to different persons, violating the rules and procedures, and thus incurring a huge loss.
The bank, which plummeted into a financial crisis, also failed to repay its depositors their money.
The investigation agency had held raids on the office and houses of a few CPI(M) leaders in connection with the scam and frozen bank accounts. It had also provisionally attached several immovable properties following the registration of the case.
