Udupi VAOs resume indefinite strike, demanding fulfillment of promises by Karnataka government, citing increased workload and lack of facilities.
Village Administrative Officers (VAOs) in Udupi on Monday re-launched their indefinite strike, after a gap of over four months, urging the Government of Karnataka to fulfil their demands.
Earlier, responding to a call for strike by their State association, they had gone on strike from September 26, 2024 to October 3, 2024. They withdrew the strike following a reported assurance by the government to fulfil their demands.
The VAOs said that they re-launched the strike as the government has not fullfiled demands as promised. The strike is State-wide.
The State association took the decision to re-launch the strike in its central executive committee meeting on February 2, 2025, they said.
The VAOs have complained about increased work load by using 21 apps. Their other demands include allowing inter-district transfer if they are husband and wife, infrastructure facilities at the offices of gram panchayats and promotion to those who have put in 15 years to 20 years of service.
They have also demanded mobile phones with internet connection and data.
