The Tiruppur police on Tuesday (February 18, 2025) arrested three individuals, including a minor, on the charge of sexually assaulting a 27-year-old woman who had arrived in the city seeking employment in garment units.
According to the police, the woman, along with her husband and three-year-old daughter, had traveled from Odisha to Tiruppur by train on Monday (February 17, 2025) in search of work.
As they were waiting near Pushpa Junction after failing to secure employment, three individuals — identified as Mohammad Nadim, 24, Mohammad Denis, 25, and a 17-year-old minor from Bihar — approached them. The trio allegedly promised that they would get them a job in a garment factory and took the family to their rented accommodation in Lakshmi Nagar.
On Monday night, the accused let the family stay in their room. Later, they allegedly threatened the woman by holding a knife to her child’s neck and sexually assaulted her. Before letting the family go, they reportedly warned them against approaching the police.
The survivor and her husband lodged a complaint at the Tiruppur North All-Women Police Station on Tuesday, based on which the police registered a case and arrested the accused. The woman is currently undergoing treatment at Tiruppur Government Medical College Hospital.
