
New ₹1,500 crore Narayana hospital in Bengal’s New Town promises world-class healthcare infrastructure

Narayana Hospitals in New Town, Kolkata, to receive ₹1,500 crore investment, creating 10,000 jobs and expanding bed capacity.
The foundation stone of Narayana Hospitals was laid by the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at New Town on Thursday (February 20, 2025). The hospital will involve an investment of ₹1,500 crore giving a major boost to the private healthcare sector in the State.
Ms. Banerjee said that the Narayana Group has majorly contributed to providing healthcare to the poor and middle class. She added, “A lot of people have criticised us about Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) and said there are no investments. This is an eye-opener. Within three months HIDCO offered them 7.26 acres of land for this hospital.”
The CM also highlighted that over 10,000 jobs will be created as a result of this new medical facility, including direct and tertiary employment opportunities.
The 10 lakh square foot medical facility will house multiple specialty centres of oncology, cardiac sciences, organ transplants, orthopaedics and advanced trauma care and critical care.
According to the Narayana Group this will be their largest initiative. This expansion will increase the total bed capacity of Narayana Health Kolkata to 2,500 beds.
Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty, founder and chairman of Narayana Health who was present at the inauguration. A few days back he was also present at the 2024 BGBS as an investor.
During the 2023 BGBS, he had promised a major investment in the health sector. He had requested the CM to provide them with a large plot of land for a new 1,100 bed multi-specialty hospital in the city. He said that it takes over one year for any other State to give land but it took three months in West Bengal.
