
Telangana women-led petrol pump estimated to generate around ₹50 lakh profit annually

Telangana's first women-managed petrol pump in Narayanpet aims to support SHG-led enterprises, generating ₹50 lakh annually.
Telangana’s first petrol pump, set up by Zilla (District) Mahila Samakhya (ZMS) in Narayanpet, is estimated to generate a profit of around ₹50 lakh annually. This would be utilised by the Samakhya to support women self-help group (SHG) led enterprises in the district. Officials from the district said that the profits could be higher.
SHG women will manage the petrol pump. Altogether, nine people will be employed there, including seven women, who would each receive a salary of ₹11,000 per month, CEWO of Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (Telangana) Divya Devarajan said.
“Bharat Petroleum Company Limited (BPCL) has set up the petrol pump with ₹ 1.30 crore. Zilla Samakhya has invested ₹20 lakh (land leveling and working capital). Telangana government has provided six guntas of prime land. It serves as an example of a unique business model which is a collaborative model. SHG women will manage the petrol pump,” Ms. Devarajan said.
This initiative would be replicated in other districts as well, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who inaugurated the fuel station in Narayanpet, directed officials to have such a petrol pump in all districts.
Narayanpet District Rural Development Officer (DRDO) Mogulappa said that the fuel station is located on the main road in the town, opposite the district collectorate.
President of the Narayanpet ZMS S Chandrakala Kotakonda would be managing the station. She said that the women employed there were academically literate and either were unemployed or relied on daily wage work.
