Thousands throng Rameswaram for ‘Thai Amavasai’

Thousands gather at Agni Theertham sea in Rameswaram for Thai Amavasai to honor ancestors with prayers and rituals.
Thousands of people from far and near thronged ‘Agni Theertham’ sea in front of the Sri Ramanathaswamy Temple in Rameswaram in Ramanathapuram district to pay obeisance to their ancestors on the occasion of ‘Thai Amavasai’ on Wednesday.
It is considered to be an auspicious day to offer prayers and seek blessings of the departed souls. The devotees performed special pujas, rituals and took a holy dip in the sea. They thronged the temple early in the morning and offered their prayers. Special pujas were conducted.
Adequate arrangements were made by the temple authorities for the devotees. Biscuit packets and water bottles were provided to the devotees waiting in the long queues.
Arrangements for drinking water and toilet facilities were made for the large number of devotees. Annadhanams were served to them. A large posse of police personnel were deployed in Rameswaram to ensure the safety and security of the devotees.
