Ayngaran Paal Kozhukattai Kadai in Madurai offers 11 types of steaming hot kozhukattai, becoming a city favorite.
Madurai’s Ayngaran Paal Kozhukattai Kadai is the ultimate destination for those who love the sweet and savoury snack. The shop offers 11 types of kozhukattai, served steaming hot, adding warmth to every occasion. The shop, that was opened in August 2021, has become sought-after in the city for its flavourful kozhukattais.
Vijay Anand, who owns the place, wanted to offer a range of sweet and savoury options of the snack to kozhukattai lovers in the city. “We decided to handpick varieties from different parts of India and offer them at one spot,” shares K Kishore Kumar, Vijay’s nephew who helps run the place.
Within a few months of its launch, the Anna Nagar branch began to gain attention through word of mouth. Their second branch is at Thallakulam, opposite to Amma Mess.
The shop is bustling with people even on weekdays, also serving coffee, tea and other healthy snacks. We try the hot pooranam kozhukattai, one of their fast-moving dishes. There also is vazhai ilai kozhukattai, mapillai samba, panai olai, milagu, siru thaniyam, kuthiraivaali and veg masala kozhukattais to choose from. The shop is also known for its chaat and halwas. The elaneer halwa and elaneer payasam, especially, have a dedicated following.
The shop has five chefs in total: two dedicated to preparing snacks and two for sweets. The head chef is responsible for mixing the dough for all the kozhukattais. He checks the consistency of the dough each time it is mixed, conducting tastings to ensure perfection. Every day, approximately 700 kozhukattais are prepared in two batches and sell out within three hours.
As we savour soft bolis, Kishore reveals his uncle’s plan to open a new branch at Kochadai. They are collaborating with Queen Mira International School to open their third outlet, which is being inaugurated today.
