
Tamil Nadu Budget to be presented on March 14

Tamil Nadu government to present Budget 2025-26 in Assembly, potential discussions on Union Budget, education policy, and women's issues.
The Tamil Nadu government would present its Budget for 2025-26 in the Legislative Assembly on March 14, Friday, Speaker M. Appavu said on Tuesday (February 18, 2025).
Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu would present the Budget at 9.30 am in the Assembly Hall of the Assembly-cum-Secretariat complex at Fort St. George campus in Chennai.
Later that day, the House’s Business Advisory Committee would meet and decide on the duration of the session, Mr. Appavu said, during an interaction with journalists in his chamber. The State government would also present the Agriculture Budget for 2025-26 on March 15, Saturday.
DMK’s V.C. Chandhirakumar would enter the House yet again as the MLA representing Erode (East) constituency. Mr. Chandhirakumar had represented the same seat as the DMDK candidate in 2011.
The alleged lack of allocation of funds or major project for Tamil Nadu in the Union Budget for 2025-26 may come in for discussion in the House. The sentiments of political parties over the National Education Policy and related issues such as Samagra Shiksha and PM Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) are likely to echo in the House.
While major announcements could be expected from the ruling DMK during the upcoming Assembly session, the Opposition parties led by AIADMK are likely to highlight among others, the alleged deterioration of law-and-order situation, sexual offences against women and children, reported harassment of senior women police officers.
An announcement regarding the Magalir Urimai Thogai programme may be expected, since Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin had recently announced that the programme would be expanded to benefit more women.
