A 10-year-old sniffer dog, Astro, serving in the sniffer squad of Madurai Central Prison, died on Friday. The police accorded final rites to the DSP- ranking sniffer dog.
The dog, which was a Labrador Retriever breed, had helped in identifying the locations of drug peddlers across the city.
Astro was involved in inspection activities on Madurai Central Prison campus to identify usage of narcotics substances.
The police personnel gave a gun salute to the sniffer. The canine was buried on the prison campus following the last rites.
