After Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly R. Ashok’s prediction on Saturday that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will step down in November 2025 triggered intense political discussions in the State, Home Minister G. Parameshwara on Sunday said Mr. Siddaramaiah will continue for the full five-year term.
Dr. Parameshwara said the Congress Legislature Party elected Mr. Siddaramaiah as Chief Minister for a five-year term. The Congress legislators had not been informed that Mr. Siddaramaiah’s term was fixed for 30 months of the five-year term. The party high command also had not informed him or other legislators about the 30-month tenure. However, the high command would take a final call on the change of the Chief Minister, said the Home Minister, who has been expressing solidarity with Mr. Siddaramaiah.
Taking a jibe at Mr. Ashok, Dr. Parameshwara said he was not aware of the astrological skills of the BJP leader.
Mr. Ashok said that “a game of musical chairs will begin in November. Someone else is ready to take over Mr. Siddaramaiah’s position. I am not an astrologer, but I have insight into the State’s politics”.
Mr. Siddaramaiah asserted that Mr. Ashok and other BJP leaders kept repeating that the Chief Minister would be changed. But there was no question of his removal. The decision rests with the party high command.
On Saturday, KPCC chief and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said: “Mr. Ashok keeps predicting like an astrologer once in a while. I will consult him next time.”
