A large number of people participated in a marathon held here on Sunday to raise awareness about intersex children under the theme ‘Save Intersex Child, Run for the Nation”.
The event was organised by Fight and Fly Sports Academy, Tiruchi. Divided into four categories, the run was held for 8 km, 6 km, 4 km, and 2 km for the age groups above 18, under 18, under 15, and under 11, respectively, to raise awareness about the plight of intersex babies and children and advocate for their rights and dignity.
The marathon was aimed at promoting inclusivity, acceptance, and support for intersex individuals and their families.
K. Rajesh, a para-athlete, flagged off the event. Starting from the SRM Hotel, the marathon culminated at Anna Stadium. The winners were awarded cash prizes and medals.
Athlete Santhi Soundarajan and intersex activist Gopi Shankar of Madurai were present.
