Residents of Lenin Nagar in Sanarpatti panchayat confront Tourism Minister and MP over delayed road repairs, resolved after assurance of action.
Angered by a four-year delay in re-laying a damaged road, residents of Lenin Nagar in Sanarpatti panchayat, Nangavalli Union, intercepted the vehicles of Tourism Minister R. Rajendran and Salem MP T.M. Selvaganapathy on Wednesday.
The Minister, MP and Collector R. Brindha Devi were on their way to Vathipatti Lake to inspect the receipt of water after activating motors at the Thippampatti pumping station under the Mettur - Sarabanga lift irrigation project, when over 50 residents intercepted their vehicles. This prompted them to stop and get down to address the crowd.
The residents complained that the road was completely damaged and, despite repeated petitions and representations, it had not been re-laid. They said highlighted the lack of basic amenities in their panchayat, blaming officials for failing to act on their grievances. The Minister assured the residents that funds had been sanctioned for re-laying the road and promoted to address their other demands. Following this assurance, the protest was withdrawn, and they proceeded.
