The previous year’s Republic Day show had seen a record footfall of 5.61 lakh visitors earning a revenue of ₹2.58 crore.
The 11-day Republic Day flower show in Lalbagh Botanical Garden in Bengaluru on the theme of ‘Adikavi Maharshi Valmiki’ concluded on January 27 gathering a total footfall of 4.75 lakh people earning the Horticulture Department a total revenue of ₹2.3 crore.
The flower show, which was inaugurated on January 16, was expected to attract around 9 lakh to 10 lakh persons based on the numbers of previous shows. However, due to weather and other reasons, the footfall was limited to 4.75 lakh.
“On January 19, which was a Sunday, there was rainfall the whole day due to which the footfall was lesser by 80%. This was followed by cloudy weather and cold conditions for a couple of days, which also led to fewer people coming to the show. The International Millet Mela and school & colleges examinations were other reasons why the footfall was affected,” said M. Jagadeesh, Joint Director, Parks and Gardens, Horticulture Department.
He added that the footfall was good on Republic Day when over 1.1 lakh people visited the show.
The previous year’s Republic Day show, whose theme was social reformer Basavanna’s life and other vachana writers, had seen a record footfall of 5.61 lakh visitors earning a revenue of ₹2.58 crore.
