A 35-year-old railway gangman was killed after being hit by a suburban train at Arakkonam railway station near Ranipet on Tuesday.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) said the deceased person was identified as S. Devan, a resident of Arakkonam town.
Initial inquiry revealed that Devan was on his way to work when he crossed the railway track on Arakkonam - Tiruttani suburban route to reach platform 2 where local trains halt. He was unable to see the incoming local train due to thick mist and was hit by a train. He died on the spot. Later, GRP shifted the body to Government Medical College Hospital in Vellore for post-mortem. A case was registered. A probe is underway.
