The raid targeted a house in a prime locality in Shahapur town.
Thirteen persons were arrested and ₹10 lakh was seized during a raid on a gambling den in Shahapur town by a team of the CEN police station from Yadgir.
The raid targeted a house in a prime locality in Shahapur town. The team was led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Nagaraj of CEN police station. While 13 persons were taken into custody, three managed to escape from the scene. ₹10 lakh was seized.
The operation was carried out under the supervision by Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar.
Shahapur is the home town of district-in-charge Minister Sharanabasappa Darshanapur. What surprised many was the fact that the raid was carried out by a team from the district headquarters and not the local police.
The incident has raised a question on the ‘inaction’ by the local police. A social activist from Shahapur said that it was unfortunate that gambling continues in Shahapur, the home town of Mr. Darshanapur.
Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar said that the local police too had conducted raids on such illegal activities in the taluk. “However, this was a big one. CEN police have seized ₹10 lakh from the spot and registered a case against 17 individuals,” he said.
