Joseph Kora, a veteran farmer from Ramankary in Kuttanad, has been selected for the R. Heli Smaraka Karshakasreshta Award instituted by the Alappuzha District Agri-Horticultural Society. The award was announced by District Collector Alex Varghese on Thursday. It carries a purse of ₹15,000, a citation and a plaque.
The District Collector said that Mr. Kora, 83, who practises integrated farming, is an inspiration to all farmers in the district. The award instituted in memory of Heli, former Director of Agriculture, will be presented by Agriculture Minister P. Prasad in a function to be held at the Alappuzha District Collectorate in the first week of March, Mr. Varghese said.
