Veteran actor Pushpalatha, known for playing lead and supporting roles in over 100 films in Tamil, Kannada, Telugu and Malayalam, passed away at the age of 87
Veteran actor Pushpalatha, known for playing lead and supporting roles in over 100 films in Tamil, Kannada, Telugu and Malayalam languages, passed away at 87 in Chennai on Tuesday (February 04). Pushpalatha was the wife of veteran actor AVM Rajan.
According to reports, she had been undergoing treatment for age-related illness.
Pushpalatha, hailing from a Chettinad Catholic family in Coimbatore, made her debut with a cameo appearance in 1955’s Nalla Thangai. Her three-decade-long journey as a supporting actor started with 1958’s Senkkottai Singam.
Since then, she has acted in several prominent films such as Paar Magaley Paar, Naanum Oru Penn, Naan Adimai Illai, Aandavan Kattalai,Chitrangi, Vasantha Maligai,Needhikku Thalaivanangu, Aatagadu, Sakalakalla Vallavan, Simla Special, and Vikram among others.
Interestingly, Pushpalatha was also a trained Bharatanatyam dancer. On the personal front, she married actor AVM Rajan; the couple had fallen in love while working together on 1963’s Naanum Oru Penn. The couple has two daughters, including popular Kannada actress Mahalakshmi.
After her final appearance in 1999’s Poo Vaasam, Pushpalatha dedicated herself to spirituality and social service.
Since the news about her demise came out, fans and well-wishers have been expressing their condolences on social media.
