The Kerala State Prohibition Council staged an evening dharna here on Saturday in protest against the State government’s liquor policy.
Inaugurating the dharna, Prohibition Council district chairman A.K. Sultan said the government was challenging the people by increasing the number of liquor shops and extending liquor sale even to IT parks.
The protestors demanded that the government review its liquor policy, which had the potential to invite social tragedies. They said the government should abide by the assurances it gave to the people during the elections.
Prohibition Council district treasurer M. Ramakrishnan Thachampara presided over the function. District secretary Velayudhan Kottekkad, M.N. Anuvarudheen, Mani Parambett, Sayed Parakkunnam, Sasi Kalleppulli, K. Aboobacker, Abdul Khader Kannadi, K. Venugopal, K.A. Ramakrishnan, and S. Sahabuddin Ashraf spoke.
Senior BJP leader and former Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Saturday (November 23, 2024) said the landslide victory of the Mahayuti alliance in the Maharashtra Assembly election was historic, and that it reflected people’s mindset across the country. She added that the DMK would be unseated from power in the 2026 Assembly election in Tamil Nadu and that the BJP would be the reason for it.
